Europeans Dominate UK Distressed Market
Data published recently reveals that investors from Germany and France make up a third of property website visitors. The report attributes the high number of potential investors to growing consumer confidence, following recent announcements that both countries have emerged from recession, as well as the continued strength of the euro against the pound.
Resilient markets at home have encouraged German investors in particular to look for opportunities abroad, the report added. British chain-free properties now provide an average return of 6.59% annually.
Investors from the USA were the largest group using the sites, making up almost 15% of all visitors. Spain closely followed France and Germany, and the report noted the influx of Spanish expats returning to Britain following the fall in sterling’s value.
British chain-free property is attracting attention from all over the world, due to the low price of the property and the weak pound. There has even been interest from large investment funds and high net worth international buyers who want to purchase entire blocks of flats.”
Internet revolution
This is the first recession when property investors have been able to search internationally without leaving their home country. Traffic to property portals in the UK grew from 8.9m in July to 9.7m in August of this year.
